Who is behind Tatrit Discovery?
My nickname is Tatrit, and I am French-Algerian.
"Tatrit" meaning "Star" in the Tuareg dialect, is the nickname that was given to me by the Tuaregs during my first satay in the Algerian desert. This name holds a special significance as it reflects my aspiration to make the amazing country of Algeria, known to a wider audience. Indeed, what could be more fitting than a guiding star in the sky as you explore this extraordinary land, full of unsuspected treasures while still being preserved from mass tourism. Whether you share Algerian roots like me, possess an innate spirit of adventure, or simply have an eagerness to embrace new experiences, join me in discovering or rediscovering Algeria. |
Algeria land of contrasts
If you're wondering what there is to discover in Algeria, here's a little teaser...
The ideal geographical location of Algeria, amidst seas, flatlands, mountains, and deserts, along with the diversity of civilizations and cultures that have populated its lands over the centuries, has given it a unique cachet that you won't find anywhere else.
As a true land of vestiges and history, Algeria is home to several UNESCO World Heritage registered sites, including the Roman ruins of Tipaza on the coast and a tremendous number of archaeological sites, such as those in the desert of Tassili N'Ajjer, which shelter different kinds of ancient rock carvings and paintings.
In Algeria, there isn't just one culture, but several.
The dialects, cuisine, people, clothing, and traditions can differ greatly from one region to another.
Although the way of life in Algiers and Algerian coastal cities may resemble the European lifestyle, the further inland you venture, the more you encounter communities that have preserved their ancestral ways of life. For example, in the far south of the country, Tuareg women wrap themselves in large strips of fabrics adorned with colorful patterns, covering their faces except for their eyes, while Tuareg men continue to wrape their heads in cheches which are plain fabric strips that shield them from the sun and the sand.
