My name is Tatrit, and I’m French-Algerian. “Tatrit” means “star” in the Tuareg language. It’s the nickname the Tuaregs gave me during my first trip through the Algerian desert — a name that reflected my desire to share this country differently, away from clichés and tourist crowds. Indeed,what better guide than a star, to lead you through a truly authentic travel experience in Algeria? This country, where I grew up, is full of natural and cultural treasures still untouched by mass tourism. Whether you have roots here or are simply curious to explore, I invite you to discover Algeria off the beaten path. |

Algeria : a land of contrasts
What can you expect from a trip to Algeria? So much more than you might imagine.
From the Mediterranean coast to the mountains, fertile valleys, and vast Sahara, Algeria offers incredible diversity. Its landscapes are breathtaking — but so is its history.
The country is home to ancient Roman ruins like in Tipaza and stunning prehistoric rock art in Tassili n’Ajjer, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These are just a few traces of the many civilizations that shaped this land through centuries.
Algeria is a mosaic of cultures, languages, and traditions that can differ greately from one region to the other. In Algiers and other coastal cities, life is urban and modern. But as you head inland, the pace slows and traditions become more visible.
In the south, among the Tuaregs in Djanet or the Mozabites in Ghardaïa, Berber customs run deep. Tipically Tuareg women often wear colorful veils that leave only their eyes visible, while Tuareg men wear the iconic chech — a long scarf that protects against the sun and sand of the Sahara Desert.
